Faithful Navigator's Message

July 2010

Worthy Sir Knights,

Thank you for your trust and confidence you have shown me by electing me Faithful Navigator of our Assembly for the next Fraternal Year starting on July 1st.  I consider it an honor and a privilege to hold that office and work with you as we work together to show our patriotism and honor patriots in our local area.  With you support and cooperation we will continue the noble traditions of service and honor to God, our order, our country, and our community.

The Pastor of St. George’s Parish in Valley Lee, SK REV MSGR Karl Chimiak, celebrating 30 years of ordained life, has graciously agreed to continue to serve as our Faithful Friar for the next Fraternal Year.  We will again have the Assembly Investiture of Officers at St. George’s Church on Saturday, 28 August 2010.  We will begin at 5 PM with Mass, followed immediately by the investiture of officers in the church, and then we will move to the Parish Hall for a reception/catered dinner.  Officers must come in tux (white).  Our guests and fellow Sir Knights who do not have a tux are welcome in coat and tie.  For reservations to the  call me at (301) 904-4373, or e-mail me at thummmw@md.metrocast.net by July 30th.  Details to follow soon. 

For Honoree of the Year I have chosen SK CZAR B. MARTINEZ, PGK, FDD, PFN, FM.  Ever since I became a Knight of Columbus and met Czar, he has been an outstanding example of what a Knight of Columbus should be and how Knights should conduct themselves, and he has assisted me in many ways.  He has set the example that Color Corps Commanders and Faithful Navigators should follow.  He is always available to give advice and counsel and he helps in any way that he can when needed.

I have also asked  SK TOM CHAYKA to continue as Assembly Color Corps Commander.  He has done a superb job to date and I have no doubt that he will continue to guide our Color Corps in the same manner.

This year I plan to work on a series of events that very well could set us up to win the “To Be a Patriot” Award.  But more on that at the dinner following the Investiture of Officers.  Although we will not meet in July and August, I plan to have an officers’/planning meeting some time during that period.  I will pass the word once I determine when that will be.  I look forward to working and socializing with all of our Sir Knights and their Families during the upcoming Fraternal Year.

Worthy Sir Knights:

A rather impassioned plea was rendered by SK  Ray Dion regarding the profanation of Our Blessed Mother, "Queen of the Knights in a recent publication.   SK Dion's report is only the tip of the iceberg, in that,  these kind of Anti Christian/anti Catholic rhetoric is very much out there and does not seem to be going away?  Holy Mother Church is a big target for these bigots and perverts that attack the most Sacred things we hold so dear. First, when we see attacks of this nature, know that the Devil himself realizes that we are the  "real deal" The  Bride of Christ and Satan, hates to be exposed. Where there is great Sanctity, a great Saint once said,  there will always be great evil and when we understand this principle we should have no fear as Jesus said, "The gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church." It is when no resistance is shown by Hell, is when we have need to be concerned for it means we are not doing "our job"  and hence, the devil need not mobilize his fury.

At the same time, we do need to defend  Holy Mother Church and Her Sacred honor. I am now asking you,  my fellow Knights,  to consider getting more involved with the Catholic League with Dr. William Donahue as its fearless President. Dr. Donahue has been on such shows as Larry King, who is no friend of the church, and  was refused a debate  with the notorious Bill Maher, a vicious anti-Catholic who has attacked our church with absolute vigor. Dr. Donahue has also taken on the Goliath, The New York Times a truly anti-Catholic paper, and has receive some apologies from venomous editorials that have been attacking, particularly, our Supreme Pontiff, Benedict the XVI.   At our next Assembly meeting I will introduce formally the agenda and purpose of the Catholic League, which by the way is one of  the few  Catholic- anti-defamation spokesman in the United States. The beauty of Dr. Donahue and the League is that he is a layman, and is as extremely articulate and witty as the great Saints Thomas Becket  and John Fisher!

Brothers, we need to do more to stop this escalating anti-Catholic bigotry that is coming from the new Health Care reform bill (abortion and ethic clauses) to great filth coming from the so called "Art communities" that depicts our Lady as something profane, to the horrible things allowed on college campuses, and does not exclude Catholic colleges. On a personal note, I feel that what was allowed at Notre Dame (Our Lady's University) was abominable, in allowing one of the most militant pro-abortion presidents in the history of this country  to speak at its commencement was a true scandal.

Incidentally I wrote along with Dr. Donahue to Fr. Jenkins, president of Notre Dame, and the Apostolic  Delegate, Most Rev. Pietro Sambi, of our protest of this scandal and hoping for a response...... we got none! Although we were very disappointed, we continue to  press on with other battles which can only be won if everyone is "on board."  The problem of this internal Catholic foo-pah, was not everyone was being vigilant or simply complacent. Hence, this is why we must mobilize and get behind our church, its Bishops, and the Catholic League. We must defend Holy Mother Church in the new Crusades against the Devil and his human angels, its time to get tough!
